How to connect load cell pedals to a Fanatec wheel base

The box arrives, the pedals are on the desk, and you’re staring at a wall of RJ12 ports wondering which cable goes where. Good news: it’s a ten-minute job, and there’s a right order.

This guide covers the SimRuito LCA V3 Control Box with a Fanatec or Thrustmaster wheel base, the brands SimRuito has tested. On PC or Linux you can skip the wheel base steps. What your console accepts is covered on our compatibility page.

What you’ll need

  • The three pedals and the LCA V3 Control Box
  • The RJ12 cable for analog output (1.5m, in the box)
  • The USB-B to USB-A cable (2m, in the box)
  • A PC with the Paddock software
  • Your Fanatec wheel base

Step 1: Plug the pedals into the control box

Each pedal has its own RJ12 port on the front of the box, labelled Throttle, Brake and Clutch. Plug each pedal into its port. The brake port is rated for the 200kg load cell, and throttle and clutch for 20kg cells, so don’t swap them.

Step 2: Calibrate on your PC first

Plug the USB-B cable into the box and the PC. The box powers on from USB. On Windows, it shows up as “SimRuito Paddock V3” with no driver needed. Open joy.cpl, press each pedal, and check the bars move.

Then open the Paddock V3 software. A “Connected” message shows in the bottom-left corner.

  1. Open the Calibration tab.
  2. Release the pedal fully, then press it to 100% force.
  3. Repeat for throttle, brake and clutch, then click Save.

Tip from the manual: calibrate the brake with your maximum race force, not your maximum leg-press force. That way you use the full resolution of the range you really brake in.

Step 3: Set the analog output

Open the Analog Output tab. You’ll see separate channels for throttle, brake and clutch.

  • Enable each pedal you want sent to the wheel base. The manual says the base may not recognise the pedals if the clutch output is off.
  • Inverted output is on by default (normal). It flips the voltage from 0V to 5V into 5V to 0V.
  • Minimum and maximum voltage default to 1.8V and 4.3V. These are the values the base expects. The manual says to check the wheel base specific tutorial before changing them.

Click Save, and save a profile if you want to switch settings later.

Step 4: Connect the control box to the wheel base

Plug one end of the RJ12 cable into the ANALOG OUT / PWR IN port on the back of the box. Plug the other end into the Pedals input on the wheel base. Then power on the wheel base.

The box can run two ways:

  • Base powered: the wheel base sends 5V through the RJ12 cable. No PC needed.
  • USB powered with data: keep the USB cable connected to a PC to tweak settings while the analog output runs. The box picks the higher voltage automatically.

One safety note from the manual: never connect that port to anything except a compatible wheel base or a 5V regulated supply. Voltages above 5.5V can permanently damage the unit.

Step 5: Test

Press each pedal and check your game’s controller or pedal test screen. If your brake feels too stiff or too soft, go back to the software: re-calibrate with real race force, change the Top Deadzone to shorten travel, or swap to a softer elastomer.

If something goes wrong

ProblemWhat to try
Wheel base doesn’t recognise the pedalsMake sure the clutch output is enabled under Analog. Connect the control box to the base, then power on the base
PC doesn’t detect the boxCheck the USB-B cable, try another USB port (no hubs), and check the power LED
Throttle jumps at 0%Raise the Bottom Deadzone slightly (for example 2% to 5%) and check for electrical interference in your rig. The manual suggests a USB isolator

FAQ

Which cable goes to the wheel base? The RJ12 cable from the ANALOG OUT / PWR IN port on the back of the box to the base’s Pedals input.

Do I need to keep the USB cable plugged in? No. It’s for PC use and configuration. The base can power the box.

What are the default voltage settings? 1.8V minimum and 4.3V maximum, adjustable per channel.

Why isn’t my wheel base seeing the pedals? Check the clutch output is enabled, and power the base on after connecting the box.

Can I switch between PC and base? Yes. The same box works as a USB device on PC or as an analog output to a base.

Will this work on my console? That depends on your wheel base. See the compatibility page.
